Description
Designed and built by an American architect in 1936, this Spanish colonial-style villa is located near Jing’an Temple in the municipally-protected “Bubbling Well Alley”. Bubbling Well Lane was the original name of West Nanjing Road in the late 19th century before Shanghai opened up as an international port city.
Yuyuan Road was home to the actual well which served devotees of Jing’an Temple, but the structure was sacrificed to foreign settlement expansion, near which this house was later built. The huge villa features nearly 525 square meters of space, as well as an 80 square meter garden.
Newly renovated, floor heating is found on the ground floor and radiators throughout the house. This is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in Shanghai’s history by living inside a direct link to the city’s past.
